Nashville – Empirical Laboratories, LLC announced today that it has been selected 2008 Region IV Subcontractor of the Year by the Small Business Administration. One of the ten Regional winners will be selected as the National Small Business Person of the Year during Small Business Week being held in Washington, DC in April. Empirical was nominated for the award by CH2M Hill, a global leader in full-service engineering, construction, environmental engineering and operations.

Commenting on the award, President and CEO Sheila F. McLendon, an 18-year veteran of the environmental industry, expressed both surprise and elation upon being notified of the selection: “While we are celebrating our forty-first year in business this year, winning this coveted award in our third year as a Small Woman-Owned and Small Disadvantaged Business is directly attributable to the dedication and professionalism of the 35 employees that comprise the Empirical Labs “team”. While we stress individual responsibility and a team approach to achieving our goals and objectives, the underlying principle at Empirical Laboratories will always be a commitment to professionalism and ethical practices at all levels, in all phases of our business.”

D. Rick Davis, Vice President of Operations and Laboratory Director, and an employee since 1979, attributed the laboratory’s culture and emphasis on integrity as the foundation for the coveted award: “Our track record reflects an uncommon ability to apply our technical skills in value-added ways, and our reputation for dependability and credibility is as important to us as our reputation for accuracy and problem-solving. Apparently this approach has been successful for us and is appreciated by our customers, as evidenced by our nomination and subsequent selection for this award.”
